  • Description: A sculpture of Mayor George Pradel, the city's first Officer Friendly.
  • Plaque Text: This sculpture depicts the spearhead behind Naperville's Safety Town, George Pradel, guiding a young girl on a big wheel bike, a one way sign and a boy crossing guard nearby. Pradel earned the respect and admiration of Naperville youngsters starting in 1978, when as "Officer Friendly" he would donate time during days teaching the finer points of safety to them free and then serve his regular police duties on the night shift. Instruction included hand signals, rules of the road, and personal safety. He and his kids became fixtures for years at many district #203 schools as well as at local parades as they put his lessons in effect. This sculpture was made possible, in part, by donations from Hitchcock Design Group and Naperville Newcomers and Neighbors Club.
